We Talk Chalk travels down to Fort Worth, Texas and leaves there mark inside of the La Gran Plaza. This mall’s children play area was taken over by our director Melanie Stimmell Van Latum and accompanying artist Lynn Okimura, who worked together to paint this live, on site, 15×15 3D street painting.
This illusionistic and anamorphic piece was inspired by Alebrijes (brightly colored Oaxacan-Mexican folk art sculptures). Featuring bright, bold colors throughout the landscape and imaginative, wondering creatures, this painting is appropriately titled as the “Alebrijes Mystical Forest”.
In total, it took four full days of painting with acrylics to create the picture and the faux tiles around the painting to integrate it into the existing floor. The end product allowed for children to pose on the Seahorse Alebrijes or to sit on the steps leading down the mystical forest.
